A Young Man, Cupcakes, and Asking a Young Lady to the Prom

Uncategorized, Update
This is Matt (young man in the middle of the first picture). Matt's girlfriend's favorite flower is the sunflower. Matt watched our sunflower cupcake making video 3-4 times and then made his girlfriend cupcakes to ask her to the prom (he piped the words 'Prom, ?, and a heart shape on top of the cupcakes to ask her!). To make it even more sweet, Matt is a competitive high school swimmer, who sometimes trains with Matt Grevers (6 time Olympic Medalist--far right in first picture), and Matt G. helped Matt present the cupcakes to his girlfriend!!!! She said YES and they are going to the prom!!  This is so heart warming to see what sugar art outreach and teaching can lead to!! Food is love, people! Yeas for Matt and…

You’ve Been Caked! For Your Kindness August 15, 2012 Diamond Children’s Child Life Specialists

Update
Our August recipients of the "You've Been Caked! For Your Kindness" are the child life specialists at the Diamond Children's Medical Center at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ.  The ladies on this team take care of and comfort critically ill children that are hospitalized in their facility.  But what we have noticed over the past 6 months that we have worked with these ladies (we provide birthday cakes for the chronically ill children) is that they go above and beyond their assigned duties.  Their care of these children continues outside of the hospital.  They will drive on their own time and dime to pick up a cake for a child, organize and order that special cake for that little one, and are always calming and uplifting to the…

Diamond Children’s Medical Center Birthday Cake 6-25-12

Update
We'd like to thank Tamara, a member of our 'Diamond Team', for providing such a cute birthday cake for Saray.  I asked Tamara if she would share her experience with us and she readily agreed.  Thank you Tamara for making a little one's birthday very special and for blogging about it!  YOU ROCK!! "It is a honor to be apart of the Diamond Team for CFC. Knowing I was next in line to provide a cake for a special someone at the Diamond Children's Center I could hardly wait til a birthday rolled around. Also thinking, "HMMM, I wonder what the theme is going to be?" Well when Rene emailed me asking if I could provide a cake for a young lady turning 14 and she wanted a salon theme.…

You’ve Been Caked! For Your Kindness June 2012 Recipient-Beverley Tidwell

Update
Congratulations to June 2012's 'You've Been Caked!  For Your Kindness' recipient, Beverley Tidwell of Candlelighters of Southern Arizona!  Beverley is director of Candlelighters a non-profit organization that supports children with cancer and their families through support, advocacy, and networking.  Candlelighters also provides events for the children to experience fun outside of their course of treatment. Beverley's journey with Candlelighters started in the mid 1990's when her young son was diagnosed with a brain tumor when he was 4 years old.  The doctors told her that the tumor was inoperable but Beverley refused to believe this and stepped outside the box finding a doctor in New York willing to take on her son's case.  The tumor was removed and her son lived another 7 years until sadly his body succumbed to…

Navy Fundraiser Dinner 6-2-12

Update
We were honored to be invited to the Navy Reserve Spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Saturday 6-2-12.  We had worked with the Navy reserves back in December 2011 when we made cakes for their Christmas party.  The Navy commander extended an invitation to us to join them for this dinner saying that since it was a fundraiser he did not feel it appropriate to put in a request for sweets.  He just wanted us to come out and enjoy ourselves.  So Jeanne, Liz, Pam, Terrill, and myself bought tickets and headed to the dinner. Of course we could not show up without sweets in hand so we surprised them with sugar, chocolate chip, and Orange Creamsicle cookies and brownie bites.  They were most excited and so appreciative!  We had a…
