Congratulations to June 2012’s ‘You’ve Been Caked! For Your Kindness’ recipient, Beverley Tidwell of Candlelighters of Southern Arizona! Beverley is director of Candlelighters a non-profit organization that supports children with cancer and their families through support, advocacy, and networking. Candlelighters also provides events for the children to experience fun outside of their course of treatment.
Beverley’s journey with Candlelighters started in the mid 1990’s when her young son was diagnosed with a brain tumor when he was 4 years old. The doctors told her that the tumor was inoperable but Beverley refused to believe this and stepped outside the box finding a doctor in New York willing to take on her son’s case. The tumor was removed and her son lived another 7 years until sadly his body succumbed to the cancer. Beverley learned so much through this journey with her son that she continues to this day working tirelessly with Candlelighters so that she can share her knowledge with parents, children, and families facing similar issues. Her son is her motivation. As she says, “It is all about the advocacy for the child and support of the families going through this. This is why I do what I do.”
Thank you Beverley for being the voice and support for all of the children who are facing this. You are an extraordinary lady and we are honored to have ‘Caked You’ to show our gratitude for all that you do.
