Ann’s Apple Pie (Pennsylvania Dutch Apple Pie)
(as seen on the Morning Blend Show November 5, 2012)
Dedicated to Ann Lauricello
Apple Filling:
7-10 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (Granny Smith are best but a combination of Granny Smith and Fujis are nice too).
1/2 Cup Sugar
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon Ground Cloves
Directions:
Toss apples in sugar, cinnamon, and ground cloves.
Place spiced apples in 9 inch unbaked pie shell or the ‘cinnamon swirl pie dough’ style (Just take your pie crust, brush with butter, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, roll, cut slices, and press into your pie pan) and sprinkle 1 tablespoon water (or fresh lemon juice if you have it) over top.
Crumb Crust:
1/2 cup Sugar
3/4 cup Flour
1 stick of cold Butter.
Directions:
Mix together sugar and flour. Cut the cold butter into the sugar and flour mixture using a fork, pastry blender, or food processor.
Sprinkle over top of pie.
Bake at 400 degrees F for 40-45 minutes. If pie begins to brown too rapidly, cover lightly with foil. Bake until apples are tender.
