About Us

The expansion of outreach activities from the Icing on the Cake Club and the tragic events that occurred in January 2011 at Gabrielle Giffords’ ‘Congress on Your Corner’ meeting spurred the creation of Cakes for Causes in February 2011. Located in Tucson and Phoenix, AZ, we are an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) consisting of cake decorators, bakers, sugar artists, and anyone else who wants to heal the world through sugar art. We provide, no-cost decorative cakes, or other baked goods, and/or sugar art lessons for other 501(c)(3) groups’ parties, fundraising events, or learning sessions. In doing so we bring premium products and services within reach of non-profits to allow them to focus their funds toward their missions.

How are we different?  We are not “cake brokers” in that we don’t simply match up a request with a random decorator and then step back.  Cakes for Causes is involved in the entire process to ensure quality and project success.  All of our volunteers are active members in our organization and not just resources to be called up when there is work.  From the executive director to the newest volunteer, everyone contributes as much as they are able.

Since opening our doors in August 2011, we’ve provided numerous baked goods to our local military troops and their families through Operation Otter Pop and holiday parties; The Boys and Girls Club of Tucson; Nourish, which supports children with feeding disabilities; birthday cakes for chronically ill children at the Diamond Children’s Medical Center and the University Medical Center; Beads of Courage, which supports children with chronic illness; Mended Little Hearts of Tucson, which supports children with heart problems; Candlelighters, which supports children with cancer; and El Tour de Tucson 2011 which supported 21 different charities. Our teaching outreach has included the women’s group at the Ott YMCA who wanted to learn to decorate cupcakes in anticipation for a bake sale to raise funds for their Y’s children’s programs. We have many more events on our calendar and are most excited about them!

Cakes for Causes relies on community support and your donations are tax-deductible. Please contact us if you are interested in making something other than a monetary donation. We can definitely use in-kind donations and especially the use of commercial kitchen and training facilities.

Our volunteer bakers are required by Cakes for Causes policy to have a Pima County health department certificate and be registered through the State of Arizona under the Cottage Food Law of 2011. We believe home-baked products should be delicious and safe!

The joyous faces, the positive comments, and the gratitude that we have received from our past outreach work, has made us firm believers that sugar art does meet and heal the heart.

We are making a difference in our community and loving every minute of it!
